Heres a pic I took when I was in New York last month. We’re standing in Brooklyn with a view of Manhattan at sunrise. It was quite an adventure getting there with our cab and walking around lost, tired, and cold. I’m glad we were able to find this awesome view.

Christmas turned out to be white for some parts of the east coast, but DC barely got hit. We might of gotten 1″ of accumulation.. tops. I’ve been waiting for a snow storm so I can go out and take some wintery landscapes, but not much luck yet. But why wait for the snow, when I can go to it?

I’ve been eying Blackwater Falls in West Virginia for sometime now. I’ve seen some great winter pics taken from there and wanted to try it out. I called the park authority and they said the roads were all cleared and open. I packed up my bag and started driving west bound on 66.

I finally hit West Virginia and I have to admit I was a little scared because there was no one on the roads. When I say no one, I mean I probably saw 1 car pass me in the span of 15 minutes. It turns out I was headed towards a temporary road closing, due to all the ice and snow gusts. Noooo! I was far into the mountains that I didn’t have cell service, so I couldn’t find an alternate route, couldn’t call anyone for help, no GPS and had no other choice but to turn around.

I tried to take a few exits off the highway to see if I could find something to make my time in West Virginia worth it, but all I saw were farms and lots of land. I pulled over on the side of the road when I saw these cows grazing in front of this barn.

The cows didn’t seem very happy to see me. All of them stopped what they were doing and looked up. The cow in the middle couldn’t keep his eyes off of me the whole time I was there. I think he even made a threatening noise at me. I took my picture as fast as I could and I ran back to my car.

So, that was my West Virginia adventure for the day but I’ll be back for you Blackwater Falls.

Theres nothing better than being in New York for the holidays. Yes, it was really cold but the lights, people, and christmas decorations made it hard to stay indoors. There were tons of people on the street, mostly tourists, but it was fun being amongst all the people.

We were there for one night for my boyfriend’s birthday. He wanted to go shopping and I wanted to go somewhere to take some new pics. I wish we were there a little longer to take some more NY pics but theres always next time 🙂

Here’s a pic from the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) at sunset. Let me know what you think by commenting below.

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means the holiday season is in full swing. Every year I get a few people asking me what they should get for their friend that likes photography. I thought it would be fun to create a ‘Holiday Gift Guide’ for photographers. Here are a few suggestions and a helpful hint to my generous family and friends.

1. Camera Strap.  Many SLRs come with camera straps very unattractive.  Getting a replacement one shows individuality and personality. I found lots of cute ones on etsy.com like this one, like this one.

2. Point and Shoot Camera. Photographers love the latest technology.  This Canon s95 came out a few months ago and is an awesome fit-in-your-pocket companion.

3. iPod. The new iPod Nano Multitouch is perfect for the on-the-go photographer.  Its convenient, small and makes it easy to listen to your music while on a shoot.

4. Tutorial DVD. Learning from other professionals is one of the best ways to pick up new tips.    Joey L is one of the youngest, greatest photographers of our time and he has DVD tutorial that I can’t wait to watch.

5. Gag gift. How funny is this?  It’s a lens that doubles as a coffee mug.  Find this and so much more at the Photojojo store.

6. Laptop Accessory. This Rain Design mStand for MacBook/MacBook Pro is great for people who spend a lot of time on their laptop.  It raises the laptop so there is no heat on your desk, its easier to clean your tabletop surface, and its at your natural eye level.

7. Tripod Attachement. Making photo shoots an easier process, many tripods have an additional attachments for the legs.  This particular head by Gitzo creates easier movement between panoramic and different picture orientations.

Hope you find this list useful for the holiday season. I’d love to know if you guys use one of my suggestions so let me know by commenting below.
