Am I the only one who’s sad that it’s almost the end of the summer? But the exciting part is that Hurricane Irene is suppose to hit. It is it really photographer-ish of me to be excited for cloudy skys, and beautiful sunrises and sets. And who knew we would get an earth quake in DC?

Watch me talk about it in my vlog here:

This past week, I had a great time shooting the weather.
First I showed you guys an image I took back in June of Kenilworth Aquatic Garden’s Water Lilies.
Then I didn’t plan on taking this shot, but I’m really happy with all the color in it. It’s a view of Rosslyn, VA from DC.
At the same time I took that shot, I took this image of the Washington Memorial at sunset. I went back to this same spot the next morning and took of a picture of the Tidal Basin at Sunrise.
Last, but not least, I visited Alexandria, VA for a sunrise image. You can definitely tell something is coming our way.

Hope everyone stays safe this weekend!

The calm before the storm.

So, Hurricane Irene sounds like its going to be huge! I can’t wait! Can you imagine all the photo possibilities? Of course, I hope everyone is safe but I can’t wait to take some sunrise and sunset images 🙂

This was taken this morning at sunrise. It was so nice being outside, the weather was really cool but not cold. Just being by the water was so peaceful. It’s a great way to start the morning.

Who knew there was a view like this in DC? Seriously? This was totally by accident. I meant to take pictures of the FDR memorial since I don’t have any on the blog, but I was late. I actually arrived to the memorial right around the appropriate time, but there was NO parking. I think there was some kind of event going on around that area and a lot of the street parking was blocked off. I had to park pretty far (where I usually park for the Jefferson memorial) and my little legs couldn’t make it in time for this insane sunset.

I had to compromise. I walked along the Potomac and tried out different compositions. This was one of my last resorts because the sun was about to set. I noticed the little rocks close to the water and thought that would make a really good foreground. It sort of reminded me of beach/ocean images so I thought it would turn out really good. I took my first step on the rock and a mouse scattered right infront of me. I jumped up and thought twice about going down to the rocks. With about 30 seconds of hesitation I thought, “at least it wasn’t a rat” and went closer to the water. I’m happy that I just didn’t go straight to the FDR memorial or else I would of never known about this spot. A great spot for sunsets in DC.

I’m back from Cozumel and had an amazing adventure! Although I was sad to come back home, I was also excited that I get to share images with all of you from Mexico.

Check out these amazing links to some of the most gorgous sunrises and sunsets in the world:
I was traveling on Monday, so I posted an image I took in Great Falls National Park at sunset of double waterfalls.
On my last day in Cozumel, I woke up really early to get this shot of the sun rising over the ocean.
Then I posted an image of our first sunset in Cozumel. It’s kinda crazy how enormous the clouds are and the reflection it makes in the water.
Right next to our hotel, were these rocks which made a beautiful foreground for a sunrise image.
Now, for a bird’s eye view of the rocks on the shore.

It is so humid nowadays that when I came back from this shoot, my shirt was soaking with sweat 🙂 Pretty picture right?

So, I went to my usual spot where I thought I could get a nice sunset image. I was really uninspired. I took a few shots, but nothing was really wowing me. I decided just to wait a little bit and hoped that the sky would change in a couple of minutes. So, listening to my ipod and no one being around, I felt as though I could sing and dance along with my music. Good thing my music was so inspiring cuz I would of never have turned around and looked downstream to see the sky was gorgous in the other direction! The funny thing was that after I took this image, I turned around again, and my original sunset spot was beautiful.

This is the back, and this is the front.

The Udvar-Hazy Center is another one of those places where you can’t use tripods in the DC area. Its understandable because this place can get really busy and it would just get in the way. So what do you do if you have to take a long exposure photo? Hold your breath!
