This past weekend was an unusual one. If you have been in the Washington DC area then you know that it pretty much skipped fall weather and went straight from summer to winter. We may have had a week or so of ‘warm’ weather but it didn’t last too long. So when I saw that Saturday was raining all day but Sunday was going to be a little foggy with the high in the 50’s, I knew I had to take advantage.

My original Sunday plans were canceled so Andrew and I were left with a whole afternoon to ourselves. That’s when we decided to take Frankie to the US National Arboretum. Neither Andrew or Frankie had ever been there so I thought it would be a great place to just get out of the house. That and the fact that a lot of it is paved and Frankie wouldn’t get too wet walking around was a huge plus.

Typically when the three of us are out together, I’m busy taking pictures while Andrew and Frankie are checking out the scene. When we arrived at the National Capitol Columns, I was happy to see the yellow shrubs in front of the columns. It was a great pop of color in an otherwise gloomy day but it needed something. Frankie obviously! LOL.

I called Andrew over and asked him to stand a little bit inside of the bushes and lift Frankie up above his head. I had no idea how it was going to turn out but I love it. LOL. It definietly has some Lion King vibes to it. Thankfully Frankie’s so great that he’s not even phased by all our weird ideas.

I don’t even remember the last time I’ve visited the US Botanic Garden. I know it has to have been at least a couple years and the last couple times I was there, it was purely for the orchid exhibit. I did not go anywhere else or really explore the grounds.

Well last week I had a former photography student and now friend come visit from Sweden. He planned a trip to go to NYC and in the middle of his trip, decided to come down to Washington to see me and another friend he has living in this area, Andrés. It was so great to catch up with Patriq. We talked about everything from photography, American food to Ikea. PS in case you were wondering, swedish fish aren’t really from Sweden.

We met up around the US Capitol and then decided to poke our heads into the US Botanic Garden. For some reason, I had never been in this room and it seems like it’s the main room you go in as soon as you walk into the building. It’s breathtaking with all the plants and vegetation. My favorite part was the ability to walk up the stairs and get a high level view of the room. I found this spot but knew there had to be someone in it to make it complete. I just love the play in perspective with the huge leaf in the foreground and the little Patriq in the background. We were only in the garden for a little bit before we went to our next stop but I can’t wait to go back again. This place has so many great photo opportunities just waiting to happen!

Hi Everyone!

This past week has been crazy. Virginia was threaten with thunderstorms all week, so for most of my images I have some dramatic skies.

Take a look at Meadowlark Gardens with rain clouds.

The next day I headed to DC to shot the coolest building in the district, the National Museum of the American Indian.

I figured with the dramatic skies, Great Falls National Park would look nice. I was right!

The last two images of the week were older ones. The tornados eneded up being a little too much for this photographer. So, I posted an image of the Albert Einstein Memorial (how cute is Albie?) and the Kennedy Center at sunrise.

Heres a video review of my new/old Canon RS-80N3.

Two very exciting things happened this week (not in any particular order)
1. I was a finalist in the FotoDC Cherry Blossom Competition. Jump to 6:50 to see my image.
2. I’m in an ebook! 50 Awesome Things to do in Washington DC is not just an ordinary guide to DC. It’s so much more than that with restaurants, events, and tons of places to visit. Check it out for FREE!

Hope you all have a great weekend! I’ll be back next week with some awesome images of Vegas and maybe a vlog or two 🙂
