A couple of blog posts ago, I talked about my favorite place in Iceland, Höfn. (If you haven’t checked it out yet, click here) It’s located about 5 to 6 hours away from Reykjavik so there were a lot of stops along the way. One of the best “road side attractions” was Jökulsálón lagoon. The only reason why I called it a “road side attraction” was because it’s right off the main road and you can’t miss it! It’s this humungous lake at the edge of Vatnajökul National park where pieces of Vatnajökul glacier break off. If you look at a world map and see Iceland, you’ll see how theres one huge glacier on the south east side of the island. That’s Vatnajökul glacier.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen something so cool. Literally. As soon as we parked the car, I hopped out with my camera ready. I was so mesmerized by these glaciers that I didn’t want to waste a second. Just the whole experience made it seem like you were on a different planet. I mean you can see the top of the icebergs, but I can’t even imagine whats underneath. How big these icebergs really are and how long they’ve been in this water. And if the icebergs were so big, how freakin’ big is that glacier? Man, I can’t even imagine.

Right across the street you go to Diamond beach and a lot of these icebergs have washed up to land and they are gigantic. So many of them were taller than me. I had a lot of fun climbing on them, running my hands (with gloves on) on them, and just taking note of all the beautiful blues I was seeing. It was so tempting to say “Icebergs right ahead”. I tried my best not to say it but I think it slipped out once.

One of my 2016 goals is to be more present. More mindful of everything I’m doing and take the time out to appreciate all the good times I’m experiencing. A lot of times I rush through things and at the end of the day I hardly remember what I did.

So when I was out making this image yesterday I was noticing the swirls in the icy water. Like I put my camera down and and really stood there to look at what interested me so much about this scene. I thought the patterns were so cool and can only assume it’s from wind. The circular motions and untouched ice was something like I had never seen at the tidal basin. What a beautiful footprint nature left.

Let the meltdown begin! After a week’s worth of snow I can officially say now that I’m ready for things to get back to normal.

Here are 3 things I was grateful for this week:

1. Snow day fun
2. Reminiscing on my fun in Chinatown in this video
3. Started watching a new show, Mr. Robot. Have you guys seen it? It’s sooo good so far. When does the second season come out?

jefferson, memorial, washington dc, sunrise, snow, ice, landscape, tidal basin, trees

Is it just me or is the daylight savings time change messing with you too? I don’t know, when I was little I never really noticed. As I’m getting older the more and more it effects me. It’s kinda crazy how I’ll look at the clock and won’t believe the time. What’s also crazy is this weather we’re having. I just got back from a walk with Frankie and I was wearing a tshirt! a TSHIRT! and last week at this time we had ice all over the ground.

Looking at this picture makes me feel calm and relaxed. It reminds me of how beautiful and peaceful the winter can be. And theres something about those winter clouds that are so much fun to capture with your camera but I don’t think I’ll miss it anytime soon. I won’t miss having to pack on the layers of clothing and making sure I have my hat and gloves.

However, I’m SUPER looking forward to the spring. I love spring in DC. Not only for the cherry blossoms, but people just seem to climb out of hibernation and be happy.
