This was the ONLY time I’ve ever had tripod troubles at the Lincoln Memorial. I was setting up my shot inside the memorial at sunrise, waiting for some people to walk out of my frame when a capital police came up to me and told me tripods weren’t allowed. I was confused since tripods are now allowed on Capitol grounds, I figured they’d be a little more lenient everywhere else. I guess not. Either that or he was bored because seriously there was barely anyone there! So I walked and took pictures on the side of the building… with my tripod.

I’ve been waking up for sunrise for years. So much so that it’s hard for me to sleep in anymore. I remember back in college I used to wake up at noon and it’d be the best ever. Now I can’t even sleep past 8a if I tried. Sunday morning was no exception. I actually woke up 10 minutes prior to the time I’d usually wake up for sunrise because I had to go to the bathroom. I looked at the time and was like, “if I’m up anyways, I might as well go take some pictures”. Glad this day didn’t disappoint 🙂

When you’re out shooting in DC as much as I am, it gets difficult to find new perspectives. I’m so glad I stumbled across this one of the Washington Monument. Its at the George Mason Memorial, across the street from the Tidal Basin. It’s not a small memorial and I walk past it all the time, but I never really stopped to take a look around.

If you saw me this morning than you would of seen a girl with a tripod sprinting across Constitution Ave because the sunrise was AMAZING!!! I got to the Lincoln Memorial and had never seen it so pink before. The light from the sky, reflecting off the reflecting pool must of been so bright and strong that it made everything pink. Even these big workout guys stopped to watch. It was incredible.

Speaking of incredible the response to the Vietnam Memorial image from yesterday was absolutely mind blowing. Thank you all so much for the kind messages and comments. I’m going to spend some time today to try to get back to everyone. Thank you so much.

Last week I met up with my friend, Jason for sunrise pics at the Lincoln Memorial. But when we got there, there had to have been at least 50 people working out in some kind of workout group. It was fun to watch but we weren’t there to photograph them, we were there for the sunrise. As we walked along the reflecting pool, we were greeted by this beautiful purple-ish sunrise and ended the morning by the WWII memorial. I loved how the sun light reflected off the water. Seriously such a beautiful morning to start the day.
