Lincoln Memorial

I’ve been waking up for sunrise for years. So much so that it’s hard for me to sleep in anymore. I remember back in college I used to wake up at noon and it’d be the best ever. Now I can’t even sleep past 8a if I tried. Sunday morning was no exception. I actually woke up 10 minutes prior to the time I’d usually wake up for sunrise because I had to go to the bathroom. I looked at the time and was like, “if I’m up anyways, I might as well go take some pictures”. Glad this day didn’t disappoint 🙂

The Lincoln Memorial is one of those unique places where people go to watch the sunrise. And I’m not talking about a whole bunch of photographers waiting for morning to break, but everyday people will stop, sit on the steps and just enjoy. It’s pretty cool to see people from all walks of life just stand there in awe. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anywhere else that’s like this. What do you think this lady is thinking about?

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? My was kinda busy but I also made a lot of time to go out shooting. A lot more than I had originally expected but that’s a good thing because it always makes me happy. This was taken Saturday morning. I was super lucky to get the very first parking spot on the Roosevelt Memorial bridge. Don’t you just love it when that happens? Anyways, as I was doing my parallel parking thing, I really enjoyed this view of the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. So this was taken right in front of my car as the other cars flew right past me.

I always get tons of emails and messages about what to do in DC. So I thought I’d make these quick little guides to make life easier. Here are some different ways to enjoy the Lincoln Memorial.

lincoln memorial, arlington memorial parkway, bridge, traffic, lights, car, trails, sunrise, early morning, washington dc

The Lincoln Memorial is the most visisted memorial in DC. I’d recommend going as early as possible so there’d be less people crowding you. The best part is that the memorial is open 24 hours so you can go any time of the day.

The interior is just as beautiful as the exterior. This was taken at sunrise so Lincoln is feeling that early morning glow.

And if you’re lucky enough to be in the city for the fourth of July, the GW parkway off of Roosevelt island is a great place to watch the fireworks.

If you saw me this morning than you would of seen a girl with a tripod sprinting across Constitution Ave because the sunrise was AMAZING!!! I got to the Lincoln Memorial and had never seen it so pink before. The light from the sky, reflecting off the reflecting pool must of been so bright and strong that it made everything pink. Even these big workout guys stopped to watch. It was incredible.

Speaking of incredible the response to the Vietnam Memorial image from yesterday was absolutely mind blowing. Thank you all so much for the kind messages and comments. I’m going to spend some time today to try to get back to everyone. Thank you so much.

I imagine if I were a guy, this is what I’d look like from behind. After I was done taking my DSLR images, Ill out my iPhone and take a few pics with that. I always text them to Andrew. I don’t know why. I think it’s partly to let him know I’m ok but also to show him all the cool stuff he’s missing out on, like an approaching storm thats about to hit the Washington Monument.

Three things I was grateful for this week:

1. Being able to fly back to Taiwan and see family I haven’t seen in almost 8 years.

2. New found joy in Snapchat. Seriously, I’m having so much fun on there! (Username: abpanphoto)

3. Starting a new book called Creative Confidence. I’m currently reading it on the plane.
