birds

I couldn’t help it. I had to post this image from last week’s ah-mazing sunrise after the storm. It kind of reminds of the Lion King with the colors and birds meets San Andreas with all the flooding on the right hand side of the image, except wayyy less dramatic.

PS. Today is my half birthday. Am I the only nerd who likes to celebrate their half birthdays? I feel like I get a pass since it only comes around every four years. CUPCAKES for everyone!

So this has got to be one of the most terrifying but super awesome things I’ve ever witnessed/photographed. All these birds started flying all at once, in no real direction but up. My ornithophobia definitely kicked in but I survived.

Speaking of flying, I’m probably in the air right now as you’re reading this. My family and I booked a super last minute trip to Taiwan to visit family. Don’t worry, I was able to schedule some posts to keep you busy while I’m gone. But I’ll also try my best to keep you updated on Instagram and Snapchat (username: abpanphoto), so make sure you’re following me on those social media sites as well 🙂

You learn so much from photography. One day I was out taking pictures and I saw this bird. I had no idea what it was called but a person walking by stopped to admire it too. I asked him what if he knew what kind of bird it was and he told me it was a blue heron. Ever since that day, it’s one of the only birds I can identify besides your usual pigeon, seagull, etc. So now whenever I see a blue heron, I’m very quick to tell anyone next to me that it’s a blue heron. I think I sound smarter when I can identify birds. HAHA.

birds, tidal basin, washington dc, sunset, water, reflection, ice, snow, sun, sunset, weather, travel, wildlife, dc,

I did it! I got out of the house and went out shooting. I met up with fellow photographer and new friend, Tricia and headed to the DC. I wasn’t expecting much. The clouds were kinda meh and it was pretty cold out, but we headed over there anyways. We parked right by the Tidal Basin and from the car I could see all these birds just chillin on the ice. Literally chillin.

Tricia and I got out and were pretty excited about shooting the birds. Then all of the sudden they all started flying away. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Just hundreds of birds going everywhere. I just kept on clicking and clicking hoping to get a good shot.
