West Virginia

Driving along a road, this blue tractor caught my eye. I was debating whether or not I should turn around. 1. It was hot. 2. There was a family in the yard and I didn’t know if they would think I was weird or not. 3. It was just so much easier to pretend like I didn’t see it.
But I DID see it. I kept thinking to myself, “blog, blog blog”. So I turned around, drove up to the family and asked if I could take a picture of the blue tractor in front of the lawn. The family was so nice. They told me that they bought it brand new in 1971. I’m so glad I pulled over, but I still don’t know if they think I’m weird.

Christmas turned out to be white for some parts of the east coast, but DC barely got hit. We might of gotten 1″ of accumulation.. tops. I’ve been waiting for a snow storm so I can go out and take some wintery landscapes, but not much luck yet. But why wait for the snow, when I can go to it?

I’ve been eying Blackwater Falls in West Virginia for sometime now. I’ve seen some great winter pics taken from there and wanted to try it out. I called the park authority and they said the roads were all cleared and open. I packed up my bag and started driving west bound on 66.

I finally hit West Virginia and I have to admit I was a little scared because there was no one on the roads. When I say no one, I mean I probably saw 1 car pass me in the span of 15 minutes. It turns out I was headed towards a temporary road closing, due to all the ice and snow gusts. Noooo! I was far into the mountains that I didn’t have cell service, so I couldn’t find an alternate route, couldn’t call anyone for help, no GPS and had no other choice but to turn around.

I tried to take a few exits off the highway to see if I could find something to make my time in West Virginia worth it, but all I saw were farms and lots of land. I pulled over on the side of the road when I saw these cows grazing in front of this barn.

The cows didn’t seem very happy to see me. All of them stopped what they were doing and looked up. The cow in the middle couldn’t keep his eyes off of me the whole time I was there. I think he even made a threatening noise at me. I took my picture as fast as I could and I ran back to my car.

So, that was my West Virginia adventure for the day but I’ll be back for you Blackwater Falls.
