To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the sky this day. I thought it was going to be amazing because it had just the right amount of clouds to make the sky look interesting, but the sun made everything look really washed out while it was rising. So, I turned upstream and found better color.

I woke up this morning and KNEW I was going to get an awesome sunrise. Do you ever have one of those days where you’re like, “Man, today is going to be an awesome day”.

As I drove toward DC I could see the sky just getting better and more colorful. When you actually get there, you see the potomac on either side of you and the sky was reflecting so beautifuly on the water, I really wished I could of just pulled over on the side of the street and took pics right there. My original intention was to take pics at the Capitol again, to get the original pic I intended for, but that reflection was just way too amazing so I quickly made up my mind to head over to the tidal basin. As soon as I got there, I was so disappointed. You can usually see the sunrise perfectly behind the Jefferson, but it was too cloudy. It’s so crazy how much views can change. Oh well, I’m still happy with this shot.

I went to the Captiol with a particular shot in mind. BUT it had to be with a really colorful sky. So, when I got up this morning, I looked outside and saw the clouds. Perfect! Because clouds make for pretty sunrises (about 60% of the time).

When I go to the Capitol it was way too cloudy. There was hardly any color and I basically walked around the whole building trying to look for a shot. I was pretty down and decided that it was just one of those days and thought about the next time I would come out. Then, I walked past these big blocks in the middle called “seatwells” or something like that. They had these amazing reflections of the building and thought it would be perfect.

Taken just a few steps and a quarter turn from yesterday’s image, I was so lucky to be out for such a beautiful sunrise.

I was suprised by how many people were out. Some were joggers but others looked like tourists just walking around admiring the Vietnam Memorial. Is it rude that while I was lining up this shot, these tourists were walking right in front, taking their sweet time. I was really excited about this composition and was about to press the shutter down when I noticed that they would not move! I cleared my throat really loud and I think they got the hint. Sorry! I get very eager and didn’t want to miss the light.
