This image was taken a couple years ago at Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz, California. If you know me at all, you know I love California. I love how laid back everything is, how healthy it is, and it’s just overall so beautiful. It’s always one of my favorite places to visit.

But I think next on my travel list would be Aruba! So random I know. Considering I’ve been to quite a few places in the Caribbean already and growing up you were always scared about the Aruba triangle. But I want to go and stay at the Renaissance Resort and Casino. Why so specific? Because this is the only place that I have seen that has wild FLAMINGOS on their property! Like you could be chillin on the beach and there would be a flamingo walking right past you. I’ve never seen them fly before either, so I think that’d be really cool to see. I don’t know recently I’ve had this obsession with wanting to see a flamingo in real life.

Look at this picture. This could be ME! Except I wouldn’t be laying down so casually. I’d probably be trying to feed or pet one of them. And then sticking a camera in their face. LOL.

If you’ve ever seen a flamingo in real life, let me know! What was it like? Where were you? Did you get to pet it? They seem delicate, are they? OR if you’ve ever stayed at the Renaissance Resort and Casino in Aruba, how’d you like it? I need to know!

For the Natural Bridges State Park image, my camera settings were 1.6 seconds at F/20 and ISO 100. This was probably taken around 2013 so I was still shooting with my Canon 5D mark II and I was using my 17-40mm wide angle lens.

Ok, enough with the snow and cold weather for now. I’m thinking about the beach today.

In alphabetical order of how I named the digital files, I present to you my personal favorite images of 2013!

These may not be everyone’s favorites but when I think back on 2013, these are the images I think of. Comparing my images from this year to last year, I can really tell that I’ve grown as a photographer. My style has become more distinct and clean looking.

I’ve also decided to divide up the 10 images into 2 blog posts. For no other reason than making it more suspenseful so you’ll have to wait til tomorrow to see the rest of the images 🙂

In March, I traveled to Northern California to practice some of my water scenes. This was a big trip for me because of two reasons. 1. It was the first time I ever traveled by myself. 2. I spent most of the time practicing waterscapes and working more on my post processing.

This was the first I was ever allowed to use my tripod at the Capitol. I think it may be because this image was taken in August and congress is out of session then. But either way, I was super happy to be able to use it 🙂

The cherry blossoms are always a beautiful time of the year in DC. What you may or may not know that it’s also one of the craziest times of the year too. This image isn’t even half of it.

I love this image of the cherry blossoms close up. I think the rain makes it look so delicate and the colors from the leaves really pop.

While I was in California, I attended a Sea to Summit Workshop by Joshua Cripps. It was really great to have someone from the area show me around the different beaches and discuss technique on how to photograph the water.

I’m back from California! What an amazing place to be 🙂 I love the beautiful weather and amazing landscapes. The skies were clear the whole time I was there, which means no clouds. Clouds always add interest to pictures but I think it works for this image. What do you think?
