coffee

This time last week, I found myself wandering around Chinatown with my friend, Birch. It had been a little while since we caught up so we figured a change of scenery would be nice. With cameras in our hands, both of us were practicing our street photography skills.

Towards the end of our photo walk, we had made our way to City Center. They have a great coffee and gelato shop called Docezza that Birch wanted to photograph. So while we were standing around, I decided to capture a few images of my own of this man working while drinking his coffee. What attracted me the most to this scene were all the round shapes. The roundness in the overhead lighting (and reflections in the window), the roundness in the word coffee and even this man’s head played perfectly in the roundness. In the image to the right, I especially like how he’s holding the coffee with that little hook in his pointer finger that plays so well into the round theme.

My camera settings for both images are F5 and 1/80th sec and ISO 320 with my Sony A7II and 70-200mm zoom lens.

Dreams DO come true and yesterday, one of mine came to life. I went to a cat cafe! It was all that I expected and more.

Crumbs and Whiskers in Georgetown is DC’s very first cat cafe. It’s a cozy little place where they have about 20 cats and all of them are up for adoption. They’re all there for various reasons but every single one of the kitties will totally put a smile on your face when you see them. If you plan on going, try your best to purchase the cat treats. They’re totally worth it because you’ll be the center of attention in the kitty purr-a-dise.

This guy was more interested in my camera than the treats.

Slept the whole time we were there. I don’t think I saw his eyes once.

He was smart. He found the source of the treats and went straight for them.

He’s cute and he knows it.

I think this one was trying to sneak home with someone.

I mean come on!! He even has a trail of treats next to him and it still didn’t get him up. I still giggle every time I think about this cat.

Loved all the kitties and can’t wait to go back.

Home from an amazing trip out west. I still feel like I’m recovering from the lack of sleep I got and all the fun I was having. So this weekend is reserved for rest and photo editing 🙂

Here’s an image I took on my second day in San Francisco. I headed up to Twin Peaks for sunrise and was surprised to see about 10 other people already there. Half of them were there for photography while the other half had obviously been there all night partying. So this lead to some interesting conversations about UFOs, moroccan food, and Lucy Liu. Don’t ask. I have no idea either.

I didn’t get to talk to this woman but I’m positive she has some interesting stories of her own 🙂

Here are 3 things that made me so happy this past week:

1. Connecting with friends from the Arcanum and all our photo adventures

2. Meeting Anelise in real life and surprising Ana at her awesome new store in Sacramento

3. Climbing down a steep hill in Muir Woods with Kyle and his wife Danielle to take some funny pictures with trees. More about that one later.
